Skill Tree is a collaborative exhibition and auction with Uni-brow.com. Twenty artists were asked to make small works on paper that will be exhibited at Honey Ramka (Brooklyn, NY) while simultaneously being auctioned online.
A Skill Tree in role playing games refers to a hierarchical visual representation of customizations a player can make to their character. The player can choose a branch with certain skills that start very weak, but with time and persistence become more powerful and narrow in scope. For studio artists, the realization of having chosen the wrong branch doesn’t come until a year after an MFA when the first payment on their student loan is due. Re-starting on a different branch is humbling and painful. The skill tree isn’t benevolent or wise. It doesn’t give you advice--just choices. The artists chosen for this exhibition are experts ranging from levels 10 to 15 along the branch of creating unique, hand-crafted objects of art. Their class weakness is health insurance. Unibrow is an online art platform that connects artists to collectors through the auction process. Curated artists upload the work they want auctioned and receive 80% of the final bid. Dates: Opening (no reception): Friday, Feb. 15 Auction starts online: Sunday, Feb. 17 Auction ends and closing reception: Friday, Feb. 22, 6-9pm, auction ends at 8:30pm Eastern time Last day to see work before shipping: Sunday, Feb. 24
