I'm excited to share that I was awarded an Individual Excellence Award grant from the Ohio Arts Council.
Individual Excellence Awards are peer recognition of a creative artist’s body of work that exemplifies their specific discipline and advances the larger artistic community. These awards support artists' growth and development and recognize their work in Ohio and beyond. Each award is $4,000. The grants were approved at the OAC board’s winter board meeting on Jan. 20. “Individual Excellence Awards represent investment in imagination, artistry, and talent by giving artists the resources to innovate, explore their art forms, develop skills, and advance their careers,” said OAC Executive Director Donna S. Collins. “These awards honor the outstanding accomplishments of Ohio artists, who we are proud to support as they continue to shape creative conversations in our state through their work in and mastery of their chosen disciplines and crafts.” Press Release Windows, curated by Craig Duster opens 9.26 - 10.24.2020 at Up Front Art Space, Cuyahoga Falls, OH.
My show with Akron Soul Train opens Sept. 2 - Oct. 3, 2020. I'll be sharing the gallery with fellow 2020 Artist in Residence, Scott Goss.
Akron Soul Train has extended its exhibitions from four weeks to five in order to accommodate participants. Gallery hours are Wednesdays - Saturdays 11:00-4:00. Akron Soul Train wants to protect your health by requiring everyone to wear a mask and allowing just six people into the gallery at one time. If you would like to view the exhibition with friends and family, AST can accommodate your group of no more than six people with a special time slot. Please contact us to make arrangements. 330-573-0517 Akron Discoveries: A Downtown Quest is a community engagement project that I developed for my month long residency with Akron Soul Train. Created as a fun, participatory event, Akron Discoveries takes inspiration from quests offered in role playing video games. Individuals or families can assume the role of the Hero and explore historic and art-based landmarks across downtown Akron. The mission is to locate the power-up items hidden at each of the six landmarks. Once a power-up item is found, take a selfie with the power-up item and post the image to Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #akrondiscoveries. There will be a bonus reward for those who demonstrate the strength and courage to participate!
I designed a coloring book of recent paintings that I produced during my residency with Akron Soul Train Artist Residency Program. Physical copies will be available at the gallery during the run of my exhibition, The Surreal Real opening Sept. 2 - Oct. 3, 2020.
Happy to have my painting, Bleeding Crown (2020), included in the 2020 Waterloo Arts Juried Exhibition. The Virtual Gallery and Artist Talk opening dates will be posted on June 10. The physical exhibition is TBD. Visit http://waterlooarts.org/ for more details
