Windows, curated by Craig Duster opens 9.26 - 10.24.2020 at Up Front Art Space, Cuyahoga Falls, OH.
My show with Akron Soul Train opens Sept. 2 - Oct. 3, 2020. I'll be sharing the gallery with fellow 2020 Artist in Residence, Scott Goss.
Akron Soul Train has extended its exhibitions from four weeks to five in order to accommodate participants. Gallery hours are Wednesdays - Saturdays 11:00-4:00. Akron Soul Train wants to protect your health by requiring everyone to wear a mask and allowing just six people into the gallery at one time. If you would like to view the exhibition with friends and family, AST can accommodate your group of no more than six people with a special time slot. Please contact us to make arrangements. 330-573-0517 Akron Discoveries: A Downtown Quest is a community engagement project that I developed for my month long residency with Akron Soul Train. Created as a fun, participatory event, Akron Discoveries takes inspiration from quests offered in role playing video games. Individuals or families can assume the role of the Hero and explore historic and art-based landmarks across downtown Akron. The mission is to locate the power-up items hidden at each of the six landmarks. Once a power-up item is found, take a selfie with the power-up item and post the image to Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #akrondiscoveries. There will be a bonus reward for those who demonstrate the strength and courage to participate!
I designed a coloring book of recent paintings that I produced during my residency with Akron Soul Train Artist Residency Program. Physical copies will be available at the gallery during the run of my exhibition, The Surreal Real opening Sept. 2 - Oct. 3, 2020.
Happy to have my painting, Bleeding Crown (2020), included in the 2020 Waterloo Arts Juried Exhibition. The Virtual Gallery and Artist Talk opening dates will be posted on June 10. The physical exhibition is TBD. Visit http://waterlooarts.org/ for more details
As part of the Akron Soul Train Artist Residency I’ll be doing a social media takeover of their Instagram story on Friday, May 8, 2020. Give them a follow @akron_soul_train and tune in on the 8th where I’ll be sharing more about my current painting series, my process, and studio life.
I'm excited to share that I will be the Artist-in-Residence at the Akron Soul Train for May 2020! Check out their site for a list of 2020 residency fellows: https://www.akronsoultrain.org/artist-residencies/

856 Jefferson Ave, Cleveland, Ohio 44113 Opening Reception: February 14, 2020 From 6 - 11 pm With this exhibition we attempt to use art and self-expression as a way to let go of, make peace with and honor our lost loves. The Temple of Lost Love was a real place in Cleveland. It was under Eagle Avenue Bridge. This was a sacred public canvas for artists to attempt to find peace, to commiserate and to heal but most importantly it was a place to honor lost love and this is the inspiration for this show. This exhibition is group show and each artists was asked to submit 1-2 pieces on the theme of lost love. We will also be exhibiting photos and video from the original Temple of Lost Love to commemorate loss of this public art canvas. SIDE QUESTS @ the ella sharp museumA solo exhibition of paintings by Timothy Gaewsky March 16 - July 7, 2019 SIDE QUESTS: Paintings by Timothy Gaewsky
Side Quests are optional sections in a video game, commonly found in RPG or role-playing games, which deviate from the main storyline. One purpose for these smaller missions is to enhance the game experience by providing the player with further background to the settings their characters are in and a sense of discovery as new areas on the map are revealed. The paintings in Side Quests are Gaewsky's attempt to advance the map to an ever expanding world he's creating for himself. For Gaewsky, each painting operates as a proverbial screenshot of an area on the map where viewers, in essence, assume the role of the gaming character, exploring new areas as they move from painting to painting.
The exhibition consists of two interrelated series, Gaewsky's Homage series and Hybrid Landscapes. The Homage series of paintings consist of augmented visual elements from some of his favorite video games. In some paintings, he has chosen a certain stage of a game for its composition, color scheme or iconic resonance. Gaewsky's interested in reducing the dynamical visual information in a game down to a more minimal interpretation in the painting. All character sprites and graphic pixelations are eliminated from the compositions, resulting in a simplified, reductive painting aesthetic. For the Hybrid Landscapes, his process involves playing an array of Nintendo NES and Super Nintendo games where he'll take screenshots of stages from different games, select various visual assets and make digital files using Photoshop. He then use Photoshop to layer the different assets to construct an amalgamated and modified game environment. This template is transferred onto the painting surface and becomes a point of departure, allowing for a transformative creative process to happen at the easel. While these new hybrid landscapes become settings for his own developing narratives, some visual elements may appear familiar and the original game source identifiable, inciting a quasi-nostalgic experience for those who might have enjoyed playing these games from that era. My solo exhibition, Side Quests, opens March 16th at the Ella Sharp Museum.

Skill Tree is a collaborative exhibition and auction with Uni-brow.com. Twenty artists were asked to make small works on paper that will be exhibited at Honey Ramka (Brooklyn, NY) while simultaneously being auctioned online.
A Skill Tree in role playing games refers to a hierarchical visual representation of customizations a player can make to their character. The player can choose a branch with certain skills that start very weak, but with time and persistence become more powerful and narrow in scope. For studio artists, the realization of having chosen the wrong branch doesn’t come until a year after an MFA when the first payment on their student loan is due. Re-starting on a different branch is humbling and painful. The skill tree isn’t benevolent or wise. It doesn’t give you advice--just choices. The artists chosen for this exhibition are experts ranging from levels 10 to 15 along the branch of creating unique, hand-crafted objects of art. Their class weakness is health insurance. Unibrow is an online art platform that connects artists to collectors through the auction process. Curated artists upload the work they want auctioned and receive 80% of the final bid. The NewNow is set apart from the throng of other regional juried art exhibitions, through its consistent use of a highly qualified, non-regional juror. “The NewNow offers local artists a unique opportunity to get their work in front of fresh eyes and seeks to rise above the local art politics which can often lead to the same artists being selected for shows repeatedly.” explains AAWR Executive Director Mindy Tousley. |
