  Tree Lawn Restoration Project

My objective for this project is to recover discarded furniture from tree lawns around the community and repair them to the best of my abilities and then return them to the same tree lawn with hopes that the household who threw out the piece of furniture would reconsider keeping it. At the very least any person who stops and takes it will have a piece of furniture in better condition then it was the first time it was left on the lawn.

Assuming the role of an Objects Conservator, I will apply conservation techniques and procedures to restore the object close to its original condition. As objects come into my lab I will conduct a complete condition/examination report on the object at the time it was recovered. I will then document the many stages of restoration. The final phase will be photo documentation of the restored object as its placed back on the same tree lawn that it was recovered from. A file will be created for each object that includes the condition report, any additional notes and photo documentation during the restoration period, as well as before and after photo comparisons.

Restoration procedures conducted for this object included removal of red paint and stain underneath, repaired the broken spindle, glued all the seams and joins, final sanding of object, an application of primer and three coats of "Tomato Red" semi-gloss paint.

  Restored Object:

Once the object was restored, I returned it to the tree lawn that I recovered it from. Along with the chair I left an envelope that contained the completed condition report and photographic documentation of the entire restoration process.
