While in temporary housing during my relocation from Cleveland to Detroit, I took the complimentary toiletry items and placed them around the hotel with a sign that read 'Free Gift'. Like some of my other projects the items were anonymously left. I'm interested in how anonymity may break down the notions of obligation, reciprocity and power associated with the gift exchange, thereby allowing the guests to accept the items without quid pro quo. Each gift item from different hotels were all placed around one hotel, The ExtendedSaty Hotel in Farmington Hills, MI.
